PLC Banner 610x280 Series FIN b 1 5

This month we focused on the craft of teaching writers—not the writing. Revisit your favorites or find one you missed in the below collection  of posts, content and other related links that supported our thinking this month.

plc-series-1In his book Engaging Young Writers (Heinemann, 2009), Matt Glover shares ways to invite students into writing in a personal way through multiple entry points. This post kicked shared a downloadable PDF from his book, available in full text in the Heinemann Digital Library. Click the image to view the post and PDF!

We enjoyed a video excerpt from Stephanie Parsons' On Demand Course, which supports understanding of the powerful and flexible structures of Writing Workshop. Click the image to visit the post and hear what students had to say about their writing lives.

Over the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, educators gathered from around the country to immerse themselves in the inquiry process during Heinemann's New Orleans Inquiry Institute led by Smokey Daniels and other distinguished faculty, including Donalyn Miller. Her recent post on the Nerdy Book Club shares her thinking about children's rights, Freedom of Speech, and our responsibility as educators. Click the image to find the post!

Teacher and blogger Betsy Hubbard shared her experience and wisdom about making the most out of independent writing time. Click the image to find the post and a downloadable PDF of her article from the Heinemann Digital Library.
