Heinemann Institutes are a powerful way to extend your professional learning and deepen your understanding of leading Fountas & Pinnell Literacy™ resources. Over the span of two or more days, our institutes, developed by Irene C. Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell, will provide you with an interactive and comprehensive study of Leveled Literacy Intervention and our new Fountas and Pinnell Classroom™ systems. When each day’s sessions are over, you can enjoy a night on the town in some of the best places to visit in the country, with colleagues who have joined you and new friends you’ve made during the day.
Intervening for Literacy Success
First up are “Intervening for Literacy Success with LLI K-2 - Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) for Grades K, 1, and 2 (Levels A-N/Orange, Green, and Blue).” Developed by Irene C. Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell and presented by Fountas & Pinnell-trained consultants, this session will focus on understanding the reading and writing challenges of children who struggle with literacy learning and how to provide effective teaching within the LLI primary lessons. You’ll review excerpts of sample lessons and instructional routines in the primary grade lessons, and learn how to monitor students using technology. You’ll hear about ways systematic observation of reading and writing behaviors can inform teaching decisions.
The next session will be held over the two following days, and will focus on Grades 3-5: “Intervening for Literacy Success with Intermediate Students - Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) for Grades 3, 4, and 5 (Levels L-W/Red, Gold, and Purple).” Here, you’ll focus on understanding the reading and writing challenges of students in Grades 3-5 who struggle with literacy learning, and be taught how to provide effective teaching within the LLI lessons. You’ll learn how to code and analyze reading behaviors, scheduling, student grouping, teacher language and support students’ sustained attention and comprehension of texts.
