PD Spotlight: Teaching Writers

The reflective practice of teaching can bring both joy and frustration. We feel joy in the moment a writing conference propels a student to a new place in their notebook, or when we witness the impact of a mini-lesson or mentor text that launches our students into skillful, inspired writing.

Our hearts also hang on to moments that keep us awake at night: whole-class instruction that falls flat, a small group resistant to put thinking on the page. It's in these moments of noting our own strengths and struggles when we can ask questions about our practice and identify an area for growth.
