Ten deserving teachers will receive independent reading libraries of fiction and nonfiction books as a result of the Book Love Classroom Library Grant.  Each year the Book Love Foundation, chaired by Heinemann President Lesa Scott and founded by Book Love author Penny Kittle, donates reading libraries to teachers who have demonstrated a commitment and passion for promoting reading in all students.  A complete list of the 2014 recipients may be found here.

Heinemann’s 2012 publication Book Love is an inspirational argument to high school educators that it’s never too late to get students on a meaningful reading journey.

2014 Book Love Classroom Library Grant:

The Book Love Foundation will seek teachers who demonstrate a commitment and passion for promoting reading for all students. The Foundation will support teachers by donating independent reading libraries of a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books proven to engage adolescents. We seek to reverse the epidemic of willful, practiced non-reading in adolescence. We want to create a hunger for reading by starting where students are as readers and challenging them to build a reading life of increasing depth and difficulty.
